12-tb-dvdIf you think that Blu-Ray is the answer to the dying DVD technology, rethink again. Because some Australian scientists developed a new multilayer optical storage medium that can store data at a density of 1.1 TB/cubic cm. How have they done it?

The Multilayer approach enables to store multiple pieces of data at the same position up to ten different layers. The layers are filled with gold nanorods and are conditioned to respond to only particular types of light. They are read when a laser of specific color and polarization hits them. The sad part of the news is that they are still unable to do this technique on a rotating disk.
