Creating a living thing in the laboratory sounds just like a science fiction hollywood movie. But Researchers at the University of Tokyo has yet again proved that it only needs good intentions and abundance of talent to make anything I-m-possible. They have created a 5 millimeter tall doll made completely from living cells. Balls of collagen coated with dozens of skin cells were cultivated together inside a doll-shaped mold for one day. After it coalesced to form a doll shaped mass of tissue, it was placed in a culture solution where it survived for more than a day.Do you think this doll is a useless one? Let me tell its uses.

The Vision

The head of the researchers, IIS professor Shoji Takeuchi wants to combine multiple types of cells to create a complex system that functions as a living organism. He also thinks that the technique can be used to create bodily organs and tissues with complex cellular structures, which may prove useful in the fields of regenerative medicine and drug development. Hope you are awed by now. awe-full or awe-some by the way?
