2008_11_14_blu-speccd_270x168At last something! CDs are being improved after a decade of being the same. After all the failures of mini-disk, SA-CD and DVDA, they have now launched a new CD Format called Blu-Spec. According to them this technology will ensure accurate data reading, thus producing accurate quality sounds. How is this achieved?

The Technology

  • Blue Laser will be used to record on CDs instead of normal infra-red laser. This will do more precise burning on CDs than the normal ones cutting down the writing errors to zero.
  • Blu-Spec CD utilizes the same high-molecular polycarbonate material and ultra precision Blue Laser Diode cutting process used to manufacture Blu-ray discs.
  • The Blu-Spec CDs can be read by any ordinary disk players.
  • This recording technology will reduce optical read-out errors.

What we think

I think this technology will also bite the dust because the CDs are already so much error proof with redundant recording technology. The few cases of read error arise only when the CD is bitterly scratched or very very dusty. The Blu-Spec CD technology will not be able to cut out those read errors. And anyway, audio CD or what, in this era of blu ray discs and DVDs, I couldn’t care less about CDs anyway.
