Cursed Mountain for Wii : Quick Review
Cursed Mountain is a survival horror game for Wii by Deep Silver Vienna where Eric Simmons, a scottish mountaineer is our hero who searches for his brother lost in the Himalayas. The storyline of the game is mainly plotted on Buddhism and Tibetan Folklore. The time is set in the late 1980’s so you can’t use the advanced tracking systems like GPS or so. Eric climbs a fictional mountain Chomolonzo in the Himalayans without first making the ritual offerings. After that it becomes some sort of action game to fight against people who have died climbing the mountain and whose souls are suspended in Bardo - state before reincarnation or Nirvana. The player must make gestures to free their souls. Read on to find more.
It is a linear game with 13 levels but in every level you’ll find one thing for sure - the mountain. Unlike other horror games, this game gives you a open space to operate creating an essence of agoraphobia. There is a mountain bearing on you all the time and the ground beneath you opens up to a sky-filled oblivion.

There are some Buddhist Flailing which has some interesting uses. Eric will melee-attack ghosts and bosses with his pick-axe and then use special Buddhist artifacts to perform a ritual on them. You have to melee ghosts enough times to get a glowing red emblem to appear on their bodies. Pointing at the emblem and clicking A triggers a set of motion control instructions to appear onscreen, telling the player to do things like brandish the Wii Remote or swing the Nunchuck diagonally. This ritual will release the ghosts. If you don’t perform each action in the ritual correctly, the ritual fails and you have to start over. If you get it right, though, you get a small amount of health back, in addition to not having an angry ghost to deal with anymore.

There is also a ritual to appease the mountain God. You have to sacrifice something to make them happy. In another mission you have to guide Eric to safety and at one point even outrunning an avalanche by quickly moving the remote and nunchuk back and forth. After that Eric comes to an open cave where he fights more spirits. There you’ll find a symbol based puzzle to escape the cave.

In the final level you’ll find an abandoned village and scary dark atmosphere. There is another Tibetan ritual called sky burial. I won’t tell much about it now. Find it after you play the game.
