HDMI 1.4 Standard Announced : Are we at the Threshold of a New Era of HD Entertainment?

The HDMI cables will soon be having the capability of connecting those devices to the Internet using HDMI 1.4 standard which will drastically reduce cable clutter. Has the time come to throw out your current HDTV and home theater equipment?

Well, you can keep them at least for this year because the new HDMI cables will work only with HDTVs and set top boxes that go on sale from the next year. Only a few number of instruments are expected to have HDMI 1.4 beginning late this year.

hdmiHDMI cables have been quickly adopted for transmitting video and audio from a set-top box to television as it uses only one cable instead of two or more required for older analog TVs. The new HDMI cables are expected to be more popular as it will let two connected devices such as an HDTV and a game console to share an internet link so that you don’t need to connect each and every device in your home wirelessly or via its own Ethernet cable.
