star-vs-cookieAfter LG launched Cookie as an iconic mobile handset with every necessary features and a whopping full sized touchscreen, Samsung was not late at all to churn out the competitor in that affordable touchscreen mobile phone range with the Samsung Tocco Lite which is also know as the Samsung Star. Both the phones have similar features and a full touchscreen to boot with. If you are going to choose between these two mobile phones you will be further confused to know that they are available in the same price range. But don’t worry, we have made a detailed comparative study of these two phones to help you in this regard. Have a look at this comparison between the two gorgeous mobile phones from two arch rivals.

1. Design

LG Cookie : Pioneered by the iPhone, every mobile phone having touchscreen is trying to imitate the design essence of the revolutionary iPhone Design. LG Cookie is no exception to that rule. It measures at 11.9mm in thickness, 55.4mm in width and 106.5mm in length which feels well in hand. The weight of 89 grams also feels very light for the device of its size.
Samsung Star : This phone also looks quite the same with most of the face of the phone covered by the touchscreen. It measures at the same thickness with the Cookie at 11.9mm, the width is a little narrower at 53mm and also the height is a bit shorter at 104mm. However, the difference of form factor is barely noticeable unless you compare them side by side. The weight of 93.5g is a little heavier than the Cookie but is still on the lighter side for a touchscreen device.
Conclusion : Both the phones look quite the same and it is a very subjective thing to decide which one would look better to you. For most of us, the beauty contest is a tie here, but I would prefer LG Cookie over Samsung Star for its six color options.

2. Touchscreen Display

LG Cookie : The 3.0 inch display has a good resolution of 240 X 400 pixels and can show 256K colors. There is an accelerometer sensor to rotate the screen as you reorient the phone. The touchscreen is a resistive touchscreen and you have to apply a lil-bit of pressure to register the touches. Overall, the touchscreen works well and we have no complain against the touchscreen display.
Samsung Star : The Samsung Star Display is also the same sized at 3.0 inches and having 240 X 400 pixels showing 256K colors. The touchscreen is also resistive one and has fairly good sensitivity for a touchscreen phone on budget.
Conclusion : It is very hard to decide between these two displays. Both of them has the same specs on paper and it is truly hard to tell the difference but however, I found Cookie’s touchscreen a bit better responsive than the Samsung’s.

3. Multimedia

LG Cookie : The phone has a good music player that can play WMA, MP3 and AAC Music formats and common 3GP and MP4 formats for video. You can store all your favorite music and video files in Micro SD Memory Cards upto 16GB. There is also a built-in FM Radio to allow you to listen to music even when there is no music stored in your card.
Samsung Star : The phone has Digital Natural Sound Engine or DNSe which can deliver virtual surround sound. The music player is fully featured and supports MP3, WMA, AAC file formats. The video player can play popular video formats like 3GP, H.263, H.264 or MPEG4. There is an FM Radio equipped with RDS facility when you don’t want to listen to the music stored in your 16GB Micro SD Card.
Conclusion : Both the phones have a good music player and can play all popular mobile video and audio formats and there is nothing to distinguish on features. However, I found Samsung Star’s sound quality better than the LG Cookie’s which may be due to the fact that it supports DNSe sound engine.

4. Camera

LG Cookie : The camera can shoot still photos of 3.15MP Resolution and videos at QVGA Resolution at 12fps. However, the photos show lack of focussing and crispness as well as details that you expect from a 3.15MP Camera.
Samsung Star : It is not a camera oriented phone like the LG Renoir or Samsung Pixon but still it manages to shoot some good pictures at 3.15MP. It can capture videos at QVGA Resolution at 15 fps. There are also some interesting features such as smile detection to snap the smiling faces.
Conclusion : Though both cameras have comparable specs but we found Samsung Star’s a bit better.

5. Connectivity

LG Cookie : It is a Quad Band GSM Phone supporting 850/900/1800/1900 frequency bands. There is no 3G or WiFi Connectivity but you’ll find common GPRS and Bluetooth with A2DP connectivity.
Samsung Star : This is also a quad band GSM Phone and supports those common bands so that you can use this phone throughout the world. No 3G or WiFi here but the common GPRS and Bluetooth connectivity is available.
Conclusion : Connectivity options are all the same on both devices and there is no clear winner here.

6. Interface

LG Cookie : The interface developed by LG for this phone is very easy to use and has quite the same look-n- feel of the Renoir. There are good office document viewers and as well as some games that makes the use of the accelerometer sensor.
Samsung Star : The system uses the TouchWiz interface that Samsung uses on almost all of their touchscreen mobile phones. This phone also has the TouchWiz interface with a few minor tweaks and improvements.
Conclusion : Both the systems have a nice interface but we are a bit inclined to the Samsung’s TouchWiz interface for its better usability and features such as multiple standby screens which are customizable with different widgets and different wallpapers.

7. Battery Life

LG Cookie : It uses standard Li-Ion battery of 900mAh capacity. It is claimed to have standby time upto 350h and talktime upto 3h 30mins.
Samsung Star : It uses a standard Li-Ion battery of 1000mAh capacity and is claimed to have standby time of upto 800h and talktime upto 10h.
Conclusion : Samsung Star is a clear winner over LG Cookie in battery life.

LG Cookie : Overall, it is a nice phone with good overall feature set. It has all common connectivity options and easy usable interface as well as a good responsive touchscreen.
Samsung Star : It is perhaps the most affordable touchscreen phone available in the market with good feature set and sound quality as well as other features.
Conclusion : The overall winner in our comparison is Samsung Star as it has a better sound quality, better interface and better camera. However, LG Cookie does not lag behind Samsung Star by any means. We think it has a better look and better touchscreen than the Star.
