nokian97Last day when I went to a mobile store and looked at Nokia N97, the first thing that struck my mind is its sky-high price. I certainly would have purchased a Nokia N97 if the price was at least 20% cheaper. Perhaps Nokia also felt that they need to churn out a more affordable touchscreen handset and that is why they are supposed to launch the Nokia N97 mini with a price tag of at least $150 lesser. The reduction in price means that you have to compromise on the display size, sans a lens cover, lesser onboard memory and small overall size justifying the mini suffix to its name.

The N97 Mini really looks like a scaled down version of the original Nokia N97 with a reconfigured keyboard and slide out design. It has less memory of 8GB or 16GB as per model unlike the original 32GB version. There is no camera lens cover in the mini version and other specs are expected to be the same. It will be unveiled at the Nokia World at Stuttgart on September. Wait for more real shots till then.

I actually liked the approach of Samsung towards the touchscreen phone market. They are continuously launching nice sleek looking touchscreen phones like Pixon or Tocco Lite for the consumers in the every price range and Nokia, on the other hand, has only two notable touchscreen phones under in its product lineup : the Nokia 5800 Express Music and Nokia N97. Samsung is also launching different versions of their popular Omnia Phones to meet the needs of different categories of consumers. LG and Sony Ericsson are also not very behind with their Renoir, Viewty and Walkman and cybershot series phones. With this new Nokia N97 Mini, I think they’ll be able to attract more customers to their touchscreen lineup.
