Palm Pre Early Review
Announced at the CES 2009, Palm Pre is the most awaited phone since the iPhone. Everyone in the tech world including Journalists, Bloggers, Consumers, Prosumers and even some corporate users are waiting to get hands on this phone. Can it meet the high level of expectation from everyone? We have made a mini review to find the answer.
Design : The look and feel of the phone is good and it appears to be less boxy than other smartphones like iPhone or Android G1. The size is perfect to fit in hand whether the QWERTY vertical slider is open or close. The materials feels to be of good quality. At a weight of 135g, the phone does not feel bulky.
Screen : The touchscreen is really amazingly rich, vibrant and all around really clear. Selecting icons takes little or no effort at all. The response is just like the iPhone’s glass-capacitive touchscreen. The resolution of 320 X 480 in 3.1 inch looks very good.

Keyboard : Typing on a virtual keyboard may be an interesting thing but an actual hardware keyboard is necessary for fast and accurate typing. The Palm Pre Keyboard is welcome in that sense but they keys are so small that you can press as many as four keys with your thumb which may be sometimes irritating while using the keyboard.
Connectivity : Support of Bluetooth 2.0, EDGE, Wi-Fi means it can be connected to everything you want.
Web Browsing : The interface for surfing the net is simple but effective. The browser works well and no sluggishness can be noticed while surfing. he built-in accelerometer adjusts the screen to landscape or portrait mode as you reorient the phone to a new position.
Multimedia : The embedded 3 MP camera with LED flash takes good pictures and music quality is great and offers good audio and video with proper resolution as well

User Interface : The UI is well designed with multitasking in mind. The structure is logical and makes sense. Like the iPhone it seems to do the right thing.
Development platform : The development platform is easy in its WebOS which uses JavaScript, HTML and CSS. But the apps may be slower as these languages cannot exploit the hardware to its 100%. iPhone’s development platform seems to be more stronger than this.
Battery Life : Pretty decent battery that can keep you going throughout the day.

Conclusion : The phone has a simple and great OS with an UI that looks like no other. The unique design, good features and connectivity makes this set a good choice for the mobile lovers.
