ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOWThe iSlate is being developed by Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University in collaboration with Houston’s Rice University and Villages for Development and Learning Foundation abbreviated as ViDAL, an NGO in India.
The aim of iSlate is to replace the usual chalk and slate in rural India and give the rural Indian students a medium to use the newer technology. The iSlate which is being designed with the courtesy of Switzerland’s Centre for Electronics and Micro technology consumes just a fraction of electricity used by today’s processors. The micro chip developed at Swiss lab has enabled such a fine function in the iSlate.
Though the price of the iSlate has yet not been revealed. Still people associated with the project seem optimistic about it. The first test of iSlates will be in Mohd. Hussainpalli village, near Hyderabad. The President of ViDAL said,
The iSlate can help bring the marvels of technology into thousands of rural schools and contribute to an improved learning experience.
About 100 million rural Indian students are expected to be benefited from his solar tablet. The innovative idea seems to be a boon for rural students who have no electricity facility. The final verdict will however come after the model is out in the market and most importantly with an affordable price tag.
