Sony reports 98.9 billion yen annual loss

TOKYO — Sony is reporting a 98.9 billion yen ($1 billion) loss for the fiscal year ended March, its first net loss in 14 years.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment company says Thursday its global sales fell 12.9 percent for the year amid the economic downturn.

Tokyo-based Sony Corp. is the latest among a score of big names in Japan Inc. reporting dismal results as a global slump and a strong yen batter this nation’s exporters’ earnings.
