Summary Box: Toyota’s deals face summer challenge
GOOD DEALS: After recalling 8 million vehicles, Toyota Motor Corp. lured buyers in March and April with unprecedented incentives, including zero-percent financing and two years of free maintenance. The company has extended those deals until June 1.
BUT ONLY FOR SO LONG: Toyota’s sales fell 16 percent between March and April as the novelty of the deals faded. Toyota says it’s keeping them for now to remain competitive. But buyers should expect lower incentives later this summer as the company starts to target more skeptical consumers who weren’t swayed by the deals.
