2BeeGames sets to provide a multi-platform publishing contract and $100,000 cash prize in an upcoming contest for independent game developers.
San Francisco, CA - March 15, 2010 — 2BeeGames, an online community for independent game developers, gamers and video game enthusiasts, has announced the launch of a video game development contest while at the 2010 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this past week. The contest will challenge independent developers to create and submit new and exciting video games for the chance to be the next big thing in interactive software. Game industry experts will award $100,000 and a multi-platform publishing deal to the developer of their choice while the online community will award a cash prize to the developer whose game earns the most votes. The contest rules will be posted and the competition will begin on May 1 at 2BeeGames.com.
2BeeGames’ contest asks amateur developers to submit their original, non-commissioned work which is then voted on by the online community and industry experts. The game that receives the most votes from industry experts will be announced as the Publisher’s Choice; the winner will receive a multi-platform publishing deal with Zoo Games, a leading publisher of interactive software, and a $100,000 prize. The game that receives the most votes from the online community, known as “The Hive”, will be announced as the Community Favorite and receive a cash prize along with the opportunity to be published.
This contest will be the third time that 2BeeGames has sought out hidden talent in order to showcase indie developers’ creativity on a national platform. “We are thrilled to extend this contest once again,” said Mark Seremet, industry veteran and CEO of Zoo Games. “The talent and creativity that lies within independent developers is incredible, and we are very excited to see what they come up with this time around.” The first two contest winners, Auditorium and Storm, are set to hit multiple retail and digital platforms in 2010.
Although Zoo Games is initially offering a publishing deal for one lucky developer, the potential to offer more than one deal is a reality. “There is a chance that we will receive numerous games with publishing potential throughout the contest,” said Seremet. “We will consider providing more than one publishing contract should the submission warrant it, and with the level of innovation that developers have shown in contests past, it’s a great possibility. For developers, this is an opportunity for their games to reach millions of consumers.”
