August Auto Sales: Toyota

IRVINE, Calif. — Toyota Motor Sales USA said Wednesday that its August sales fell 31.4 percent from the same time last year, when sales were boosted by the federal Cash for Clunkers rebate program.

Toyota vehicles, especially the widely sold Corolla, were among the more popular vehicles sold under the trade-in program.

BY THE NUMBERS: Toyota sold 148,388 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in August.

TOP SELLERS: The company sold 30,764 of its Camry sedans during the month.

HOT MODEL: The 4Runner crossover SUV posted a sales jump of nearly 300 percent to 3,833 vehicles in the month.
