General Motors (GM) finished second with its 2010 global sales at 8.39 million vehicles.
According to News.com.au, Toyota’s global sales rose eight per cent from 2009, driven by solid sales growth in China and other Asian nations.
Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco said that the Japanese manufacturer was doing its utmost to beef up quality despite the No.1.
“Our objective is to become No.1 with the customers. We want to be their favourite car manufacturer,” Nolasco said.
On the other hand, Toyota was the only major carmaker to see its North American vehicle sales drop last year compared with the previous year.
Toyota’s North American sales last year totalled 1.94 million vehicles, down two per cent from 2009.
Other carmakers staged a recovery from the global financial crisis. (ANI)
