After releasing UBUNTU 10.4 earlier this year, it released 10.10 yesterday, 10/10/10 and quite a right day to release its newer version. Six years after the first Ubuntu release, Canonical has pushed the Linux desktop into a new height. Surely Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat (version 10.10) has several interactive new features that can attract any non-Ubuntu user to experience this platform. It will be quite possible that after 10.4, next release would be 10.5. But Canonical has named it first 10 for the year and second for the released month (October). It also given an animal name preceded by an adjective starting with same letter, “Maverick Meerkat”. According to Mark, Meerkats are smart and social and that’s what the new Ubuntu is designed to be.
The look of Maverick is not changed. Same as its predecessor Lucid, it had purple and orange combination. After its official brown color is no more, orange taking its place all over it. The GNOME base platform has been updated to the current 2.32 versions. This includes the new dconf and gsettings API. 100 of bugs are fixed in GNOME 2.32 and thus it organizes contacts, image viewer and movie player much more efficiently than the earlier versions. Unlike the earlier version of Ubuntu, boot process is much faster in Maverick. Sound control has been enhanced. Not only are the looks also some features also included. You can now control other music application with the new sound control box. The Ubuntu Software Center has more updated look and feel. Direct purchase of application can now be done with this enhanced Maverick software center. Networking applets are also quite good in this version.
